  • Little OC Fishing Report and Invite

I fished thorofare for 3 hours but only managed a short @12'' on gulp. I talked to one couple who had managed 2 keepers on minnows and saw many other shorts pulled up. Anyway I will be in the area for this week and next week so if anybody is in the area let me know (OC-CHSP).

I went to OC last weekend, it was a tough bite on flounder. Hope the numbers come in soon.

BTW, fishing report should be in The Boatyard-Maryland, not the Main.

Was more of an invitation than a report so I decided to post it all here

As many of you know I was in OC last week. Fished 5/7 days from either kayak or from bridge. Fishe thourofare once after launching from Hoopers crab house after dark. Had 1 keeper flounder and 1 @ 12". Had a better time tog fishing with another member here Brian... I learned a ton of useful info... thanks buddy... also fished rt 90 and got 1 small 13 1/2" flounder. I did my best on the rt 50 bridge with 8 bluefish all over 16" or so with 2 over 23". Came home with a tog and some blues ate the flounder on the grill there... I know this "report" doesn't go here but since it started here might as well continue...

Fished behind the airport today. Caught 5 flounder with the biggest going 19. White gulp! and minnow combo. Good luck if you go out again.

Good luck Minh! Reports have been mediocre for flounder, I hope you find 'em and bring us some good news!

Question for ya, when you say gulp! and minnow combo, do you mean top and bottom rig with bucktail or weight? or a minnow and gulp! on the same dropper loop hook? Cuz I've seen both done... Thanks!

I know you didnt ask for all this info, but I'll share the rig I was using yesterday in case anyone else is curious. It seems a few guys are heading down that way soon on vacation.

I like to keep mine simple. I use a 2 oz. egg sinker above a small swivel (sometime I'll put a small bead below the egg sinker to protect the knot). From the swivel I use 18 inches of 20-30 lb fluro with a size 3 owner J-hook. I thread the Gulp! up onto the shank of the hook (like you would on a jighead) and then put the minnow on. As I drift I bounce rig high enough so the Gulp! tail flutters. The flounder almost always hit it on the way back down. Once I feel the thump-thump-thump of the bite, I let my thumb off the spool, give it a 5 count, engage the reel and set the hook.

I've had more luck with a short leader because you can fish it vertically. The 2 oz. sinker was plenty to keep it vertical yesterday. There is a lot of grass and seaweed on the bottom, so dragging it was becoming a pain and covering the bait quickly.

I don't know if you are up for fishing the Rt. 50 bridge in the evening/night, but I will likely make a trip sometime next week after work. The current decreases to a more managable level around 7/1. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks bro! I actually really appreciate the details, and I'm sure others do as well.
