Catch of the Day!

Last Monday I turtled my yak in the Severn and lost both my lightweight and medium rod and reel combos. Today I got a call from a friend that was leaving town for Florida to live and he was thinning out his rods and reels prior to leaving. Anyhow, I got some stuff from him. Not the best, but good usable stuff for the time being. I'm not sure how good this stuff is, but I'm going to clean it up, lube it and re-spool them for use.

I don't know about everything, but the Penn and Mitchell reels should be good to go.

Having had expensive rods and reels over the years, that all changed when I started kayak fishing. After turtling and losing some nice stuff, I only buy the cheap combos now and they have never let me down.

I caught 4 of my fish today on a rod and reel I "caught" the Susquehanna river during a shad outing last spring, I actually thought I hooked a fish. Imagine my surprise when another rod and reel was on the other end of my line.

A little oil and elbow grease put everything back into condition and the combo worked just fine today.

I can remember my dad losing his new boron spinning rod (he paid a $100 for back in the very early 80s) over the side when it snagged. He was trying to get the 15 hp tiller motor started while we drifted down stream in the fast water below the hydro electric dam. We "fished" for an hour before finally snagging that rod and bringing it back in the boat. Of course it was us kids' (me and my twin sister) fault it went over in the first place.

I like Lightning Rods, always have. IMO they are one of the best rods when it comes to casting or spinning; especially in the $40~50 range.

Fly rods are a different animal, I have some expensive ones.
