Janes Island and Smith Island

I'm looking for a new place to fish and was thinking about heading down to Jane's Island to camp and fish. I've never fished lower bay so I'm definitely excited to get out there. I've been reading old reports/posts, but still wanted to ask a question. Should I wait till late summer/fall to fish for better opportunities? Or will I be able to get into some keeper specks now and possibly some reds?

Also, has anyone ferried over to explore Smith Island and fish?
