*knocks on wood* Sunday is looking good, anyone going out? I am debating between SPSP and some place further south, Breezy Point, North Beach, etc. Probably settle on SPSP since I am familiar with that area and have heard of some fish still coming from the beach in the last few days.

TJ - I'm probably going to make it out. I saw several kayaks launching from Hemmingways yesterday morning around 7am. I went to Hemmingways to launch a couple weeks ago and the area was fenced off for construction.

Grilled Sardine just walked around the fence and launched recently. Apparently there were construction workers there at the time, so it doesn't look like you'll get a beef from them. I'm going to head over that way shortly to see if the fence is still up. I'll keep you posted.

You can still launch from hemingways...it's blocked off but you can go around. You just have to park a bit further. Ive launched there twice already with no problems. I plan to go out tomorrow also... I have to be back before 12 so I'll be out early in the morning. Weather looks promising for tomorrow!

Just put the first holes in my Revo and installed the anchor trolley. Launching from SPSP or Hemmingways early.. a little paranoid of the trespassing signs lol

good luck at the bridge tomorrow. I put in around 5 hrs at SPSP today searching for a rock from the shore with no luck. it was nasty out there. My buddy caught a catfish.... I guess all that rain has freshened up the water around there.

              SPSP Surprise

I did see someone in the parking lot with a Red Tarpon 120. Was that a member here?

I am going to hit Solomons tomorrow in hopes of some early season Croakers. I'm going to wait until we get a few clear days to hit the bridge again. I think the storms have brought bad mojo to that area for me.

How did you do? Me and Jimbo launched from SPSP at ~6:30, ran into surfdog who hadn't had any luck since early in the AM and we didn't either, trolling or drifting BW's. The weather was awesome, but the the water was super muddy and full of debris as Tidalfish reports and you had warned of. I should have attempted a more southern launch like I had been debating on. Jimbo managed to catch a White perch and got the skunk off! Still a good day to be out.

Good luck with the early croakers- I am thinking about trying the lower Potomac River around Cobb Island area- high water shouldn't have too much effect there- according to reports I have read most of the Stripers have been taken in waters about 35-40 feet deep- on outgoing tides.

i was wondering how you did. i had 1 good hit at 0545 but didnt take the hook found out why the point got bent some how i check it when i threaded a bw on it must have dinged a rock on the way in. your and jimbos hobies are looking good, with the foggy haze on the water you were kinda hard to see out there. the guy with the tarpon had a home made trolling motor set up but he took it off after about an hour. the guy next to me caught a 23" rock.

mmanolis, missed you again. ictalurus and i got skunked on sat at pax nas also. well i got skunked bill caught a baby striper on bw nipples

My First Fishes of the Year

I put in 9 hours of shore fishing at NAS Pax Saturday afternoon. Caught five stripers and six croakers on BWS. Biggest striper was 21" and other stripers were 12'-13''. All 11 fishes were released.

Hope to bring out the yak at SPSP this Friday or Saturday.

Cool pic, TJ. Sorry about the skunk. I know how you feel about heading south. St. Jerome's and Piney Point are calling my name. An April flounder would be cool.

Surf--That was a lot of fun Saturday morning. I think the weight I was using weighed more than the fish.

From what the fisherman are telling me at the store, the bay is still muddy, with lots of junk in the water. Some of the fisherman going to Thomas Point Park are catching croakers from the beach, on bloods. I have been busy, but will have to get out soon myself. Except for all the rain and muddy water, looks like the bay temp and conditions are right. The trolling bite should produce.

I spent two hours on the water yesterday and caught one small striper about 12-13 inches and released it- I put in from Cobb Island and fished in about 25 feet of water on the out going tide- the power boats seem attracted to a bright yellow kayak. Several got closer than I was happy with and the ride was rough with the wake tossing you around a bit before settling back to normal, but dealing with the boats still beats sitting on shore wishing you could fish the channels- I am finding that no matter where I position the Scotty rod holders they aren't ideal- When I put them close enough to be convenient they are in the way paddling and trolling. I am getting more confident in not tipping my yak over and find I can sit sideways in my seat to reach behind me to get things I need out of my crate- the weather was hot yesterday- over 80 degrees and too hot to wear a drytop and waders- even though my OK Prowler cockpit was wet, I wasn't cold- the cool water felt good-

My Hummingbird 570 di worked good with the duct seal well system on the transducer. Just add water to the well built around the transducer when you launch and it works fine. Finally got a chance to really try it out- the latest sonar technology is amazing- You can tell the difference between bait and game fish.

Ron--where did you launch on Cobb Island? There are some lumps out there I'd like to check out one day. Yaks seem like boat magnets in the Patuxent, too. I wish boaters would circle around rather than head straight for me if they want to check the yak out. It would be a little less nerve-wracking that way.
