This has very little to do with kayak fishing.
But I thought anyone who has been to Point Lookout or is interested in going would like to see this video.

I'm a Ranger at Point Lookout, and this is one of a few aerial videos that have popped up in recent months. Truthfully, we in the Park Service loves these videos! This video in particular shows off Point Lookout the way we know it is, rather than the recreational beach and/or campground people view our park as. Awesome video of a beautiful place!

Very cool, thanks. I had an ancestor who was a POW during the Civil War die there. His name is on the monument just outside the park.

Then you would be interested to know that several months ago some archaeologists went in there with ground penetrating radar to locate any remains.

I spoke with one of them at Summerseat Plantation recently.

The story I've always heard was that after the prison camp was closed the remains of deceased prisoners were dug up and buried in a mass grave at the site of the memorial. Later many were supposedly identified and repatriated with their home states

However, the archaeologist told me they didn't find anything. In fact he said the soil didn't look like it had ever held remains. They haven't ruled out that there may be something under the memorial. But there are no plans to remove the memorial to look.

Thank you. One family lost three men in that war. My GGG grandfather died near Harrisonburg of disease, one brother was never seen again during the Penisula battle so most likely was killed like many others and the body wasn't recovered and the youngest brother died at Point Lookout. They were all from central VA near the Rappahannock, I like to think they all fished there before the war.
