I don't think the PA 12 is going to suffer. I think there is a lot of advantages.

I guess we will find out. But I am not making this up. It is just speculation, but what I heard was dealers are expecting the new outback to hurt PA12 sales. And they are expecting a price hike on the outback next year if that does happen.

One advantage I do see is the larger center hatch on the PA12, but you could add one of those to an outback...which I might end up doing later after I see a write up on the installation.

        • Nope don't think PA 12 Will suffer. PA 12 is still more room, more rigging options without drilling, laydown rod holders, that wonderful seat. Its the PA 14 in a smaller package. I just purchased a 2014 outback in march and had to sell because of the seat Now I'm stuck between the new outback and a used PA 12.

                • I demoed a '14 outback the other day and was very impressed, but I am concerned about the lack of reverse. I ended up getting entangled in a dock at I approached to fast and had to get the paddle out to work myself out. I really want to try a Propel drive before I plunk money down but the feature set of the 15 Outback looks very impressive and it was very tempting to put a deposit down on one. The addition of a square hatch and the tackle box management system for it would have likely swayed me into going for it.

                  • You need to carry a paddle anyway. Pretty easy to unclil the paddle whenever you need it. Reverse would be pretty cool though. But I personally like how the mirage can run in really shallow water without pulling up the drive unit like you would have to do on the propel. That was one of the big factors for me. Also had to factor grass getting caught up in propel drive since I fish some prettty grassy areas.

I am assuming you mean if that option was standard, it would have swayed you. Hopefully the dealer told you it can be added. It's an upgrade I have already ordered for mine.

                      • How much is that upgrade pricewise? The fact that a lot of former options are now standard on the 2015 Outback maybe the reason the price has increased- the sail rudder and turbofins should have always been a standard feature-

The fins are "ST" (square tip), not Turbo. Pretty sure it still has the standard rudder, not sailing. Yes, it should have gotten both.

In fact he did not mention any factory options. Is there a list of them somewhere online?

                            • Speaking of upgrades. Not sure if anyone noticed yet but the cost of the turbo fins went up 30%. They are $129 now instead of $99.

You may still be able to find the old price from a reseller but better hurry.

                              • I've been using the stock fins, and apparently don't know what I'm missing. I can troll effectively, and keep up with folks as needed.
