    I agree with this as well, but just in case you don't have spot. You can substitute perch or other small legal bait

      I've heard some guys snip the dorsal fin off a WP with a pair of scissors to make them easier to eat.

        sounds like a good idea. Years ago when I would fish for largemouths with bluegills for bait, I would pinch the tailfins off a little. If the bass were a little sluggish it made them a easier meal to catch. I think on certain days, a lively bait is more trouble than its worth, on other days they wont eat a bait thats the least bit lethargic.
