My best luck was in the 20 foot range

I'd agree although I have caught fish on the flats with 3 fow out to the deepest water in the middle of the channels. And if you are like me and don't like tube and worm, you can troll cranks / xraps / soft plastic shad style baits with some sucess. As for snag hooks, I prefer the "smaller" ones personally. Say around a 6/0 treble with around an ounce and a half of lead, all the local shops have them.
