Took my kayaks to Avon, NC, again this year. Fished the Canadian Hole on August 4 with no action. Inspired by jhoss' post from July, I went up to Oregon Inlet on Thursday. I threw 1/4 oz jig head with a green paddle tail in the waters about 300 yards from the marina (4 feet deep). Had a strong hit after about an hour and fought for 8 minutes while a fish pulled my Outback around. It repeatedly stripped off yards of 8 lb test line from my cheap-o rod and reel. Three nearby kayakers so pulled their lines in while the fish dragged me around. Finally landed a nice red drum, took pics , and let him go. I was so excited I forgot to measure the fish--I'm guessing 25-30 inches. Made my week!
