Neuse River, NC

I am dropping my daughter off at the Seaferer summer camp on the Neuse River and I thought I would take the yak and do some fishing. Does anybody have any suggestions as to where I could put in, species info etc ...

I was down in Kinston, NC a couple years ago for work and stopped in a cool little (actually pretty big for a local place) sport shop called Neuse Sport Shop. This place reminded me of a mini basspro shop. Check it out if its not too far out of the way. They could probably provide some information on fishing the Neuse River too.
