Planning - 17-hr Deep Drop Sat, 19 Dec

It's Deep Drop time, and I'm going on a trip out of Rudee Inlet, VA.

Boat leaves about 3 am, Sat
17-hours, $200 per person
Equipment and bait are provided
Max 35 anglers per boat; sometimes two boats go out
Target is primarily black sea bass (BSB) and blue tilefish; you can also get golden tiles (bigger than blue), grouper, rosefish, wreckfish, barrelfish, blues others

The 19th is good because it allows a back-up date for taking home BSB. In case the wx is bad on the 19th, you can sign up for the following weekend, the 26th. VA BSB season would still be open. Starting 1 Jan, BSB season is closed. If you plan for the 26th, and the trip is postponed due to bad wx, the next trip would be Jan 2. That's when your take-home will be tilefish, etc., not BSB.

As you know, BSB is among the best tasting fish!

It was fun last year when we had a bunch of MKF guys. Everyone caught lots of fish.

Seems early to sign up, but it's not.

Two days ago we called up for a 28 Nov 17-hr trip. They were already full, and they had been full for a while.

Today, I called to sign up for the 19th. I'm number 12 on the list. Before you know it, a trip can quickly fill up.

Tufnik you are going in December am I correct? We have a private trip planned for the 20th of this month which is Friday but we will probably be blown out as MetroMan said according to Fishweather App winds are in the 20s with gust at mid 30s.

I thought MM meant 20 Dec. That's why I said you'll be a day too late because I'll fish on the 19th.

fishweather.com is what I've been using. Pretty accurate in my experiences

There have been some good reports coming in out of the Indian River Inlet... tautog inner and outer wall..
and the charters.
Note in picture... only one person without facial hair

Cancelled...then got rescheduled to the 29th, which was also cancelled. Bummer!

I guess I shouldn't have procrastinated but it seems the trip has been sold out.

There's a wait list of 4 people if people are wondering.

I guess I'll try next year.

Yep, trips can fill up fast in Dec. Frankly, I thought there would have been a few openings for the 19 Dec trip at this time.

For next year, BSB season re-opens mid-May. From 1 Jan to mid-May, trips won't fill up as fast because BSB would be closed.

I still may try another trip in Jan/Feb.
