Went crabbing yesterday at our community marina in the South River, with 12 traps. In about three hours I had 20 large or jumbo crabs. I was only keeping large or jumbos. There were alot of small crabs. The handliners were having trouble with all the small crabs. I have a theory with the traps. The bait is tied down, with the larger crabs able to run off the smaller crabs. So, I let the traps sit a little longer. Hey, it gives me time to have a beer in between checking the traps. Seems to be a pretty good year for crabbing. Maybe the restrictions on female crabs will work. Of course, I have never kept female crabs.

Nice job! I'm going to try crabbing with some traps in Spa Creek soon. I head they were going to open the female harvest for a couple weeks in the fall. I hope they dont.
