I went out of town for Memorial Day and passed some nice looking, smaller rivers on the way out past Fredrick. It got me to thinking and was wondering where some nice rivers are that my wife and I could fish/float down with some possible overnight camping on the way down, during a long weekend. I'm thinking 2 days and one night. Possible service shuttle that brings people back. Anything like that within a 2-3 hour drive?

You can float down the Rapidan River from Germanna Community College to Elys Ford near Fredericksburg. Just be careful not to go when the river is too low or you'll be walking. A lot. I found that out the hard way. I can't remember the minimum gauge measurement, but I can find out if you're interested. I haven't done that float in a while, but there used to be lots of nice smallies in that section. You could park a car at each end.
Jeff Little (http://blueridgekayakfishing.com/) does guided float trips, and I highly recommend the experience. He spends part of the trip showing you how to handle your yak in rapids, which is good to know. He also has access to some less heavily fished areas, at least on the Rapp.
I've scouted out some floats on the Mattaponi, too, but that might be out of your 2 hour driving range. The float from Zoar State Forest to Aylett is supposed to be pretty, and it's supposed to have good numbers of yellow perch in the spring. Dad and I did a float on another section. It was pretty, but we didn't catch much. That was during the spring, so I don't know how the summer fishing would be.
I think Clore Brothers Outfitters on the Rappahannock has a shuttle service, but I haven't used it. You can check it out here: http://www.clorebros.com/Yellow Hobie Revo Rube Goldberg

My dad and I have floated the south fork of the Shenandoah river many times in canoes, looking to do it for the first time in a yak...great smallmouth fishing, and supposedly the river is doing really well this year for that.
Several outfitters that can give you a ride, here is one we have used...

Or, you can figure out your own trip with 2 cars:

We have done the Potomac River from Bruinswick to Point of Rock, in fact just did Saturday. The Momocracy isnt to bad to do floats on, a bit shallow though. I have done the Shenadoah before as well and that is alot of fun. If any one is interested, i'll join in on any.Malibu Stealth 14
