    Shad @ Fletchers, 3-31-13

    I went shad fishing at Fletchers Boathouse on the Potomac today, 3-31-13, 12:15pm to 4:00pm. Decent fishing while fishing from shore with spinning gear. I caught 29 nice hickory shad. At least half were nice to very nice sized females up to 19” long. Nearly all of them caught on a 1.5” crappie tube, orange body with chartreuse tail. I added a bullet weight 2’ up the line for additional weight. No American shad.

    Decent conditions too. Heavy overcast, near calm, water vis 4’, flow 4.4’, high tide @ noon, and finally, hardly anyone fishing from shore and only 6-8 boats out.

      Nice work on the shad! I like the idea of using a bullet weight to help it sink faster... Maybe I wasn't getting the darts to sink far enough

      Thanks for sharing, I'm definitely going to try a bullet weight next time
