Decided to hit Marshall Hall after work for a few hours. I haven been out there lately. Caught 2 blue cats. It was a little choppy, but beautiful as the sun was setting. I had about six nice hits, but only hooked up on two. The first one had a nice war wound on its head. Lazy fighter. The second, which I didn't get a pic of, was about 10 lbs and quite the fighter. It pulled my kayak completely around 180 degrees. It was great. It took me awhile to get the metal stringer on. I got all my gear and yak set again and when I pulled the fish back in, the stringer popped open and off she went. I need to find another stringer. The larger cats pull the metal clips open. I had a nice boater stop and ask if I would be OK when it got dark. Yep, my yak light works great.

Couldn't find the delete post, could only edit and it wouldn't let me leave nothing. Please enjoy this rambling explanation, vs a blank post

      Forget your seat?

For the stringer, get a Mustad MSTD-62A.

That looks similar to what im using. The rolling cats are bending the wire clips. I will see if those are made stronger, i may just go with 550 cord

I had stringer envy... Goody had one, and I had the cheapo ones with a needle and a loop. The Mustad 62A has stainless steel hooks that are separated with beads and plastic tubing between each hook. I haven't seen a picture on the intardwebs showing it...so I'll put one up in a minute.

This one....and the one below, I made. You can't put the cats on top of each other for long though with the homemade one. Pulling them behind the yak they mark each other up.

I've lost a couple of larger cats this year. I've gotten back to the landing with an open hook. I think the crimp part has loosened, sliding up or down and making it easier, as they roll, to pull it out.

Get a big game stringer. It's essentially just one big clip

I've seen those. I wouldn't want to put the cats on top of each other though. I often change my mind about keeping/cleaning them. They would fin each other it seems and I wouldn't want to throw them back looking they were shanked. It would work better though, it just means I'd have to be committed to cleaning them and stop getting lazy on the return to the launch

Speaking of stringers, you can get a spearfishing stringer (same as the big game stringer Shady suggested) or you can modify the Mustad one by replacing the rope with a thin diameter (pliable) coated steel cable from home depot...

I really like the upgrade because the line doesn't tangle and it adds a little weight to keep the fish lower. You can also clip on a weight at the bottom and it will lessen the tendency for the fish to rise when your moving at a faster pace.

I wouldn't use these stringer to hold SH. I lost one to similar stringer, I'll go for spearfishing stringer for big fish
