Went out around Hooper Island with Chex yesterday trolling for stripers and anything else that might hit. We stayed in 2-4 feet of water and skirted the shore. Since the grass is out in full, we were using light jigs. We first were using 1/8 oz and then went lower at 1/16 oz which went above and through the grass grabbing very little to no debris.
Fish seemed to like a slow troll between 2 and 2.5 mph. Cadence played a big role in managing the speed and depth that seemed to bring the most strikes (hat tip to Yakfish). I was using 4" paddle tails at first but got no hits. Chex got them first on chartreuse gulp swimming mullet and handed me some. We both started catching after that. Chex ended up with around a dozen at the end of the day and I ended up with around 8. Best part was we both went home with two keepers each! My biggest for the day was 20.5"
Good times and beautiful scenery
