  • Patapsco/Belle Grove Ponds 9/19

Hit the water about twelve just as the tide was changing for a quick trip. Launched from Southwest Park.

First fish on within minutes of leaving the ramp, 19 "cat. Hit a Gulp chartreuse swimming mullet that I had dropped to troll as I was setting up my other rods for trolling, right outside the little inlet that leads to the ramps. Fished that area for maybe another 15 minutes with no further luck.

Headed up to the first pond trolling the gulp, storm paddle tail and a rattle trap. Paddled through the shallow area near the island looking for the edge and just as I see the sharp drop into the main river channel on my FF and start to think to myself this may be a good spot to troll, bam a 17 1/2" striper hit the Gulp. Worked the area for another hour or so after cleaning up the mess of tangle the fish had left me with no further luck.

One other very small striper caught on a feather spinner that I was casting to shore hoping for some WP.

I'm happy for a couple hour fishing trip but would like to know why every damn rockfish I catch is somewhere between 17 1/2" and 17 15/16".

Are all the WP deep or something? I tried the woody type feather spinner and a small roadrunner type jig head with a 2" twister tail with no hits whatsoever.

My first striper today was 17 1/2", I tried making it bigger but it just wouldn't stretch.

I'm not sure the perch get in there much this time of the year, there's plenty out in the river though
