  • Conowingo--Fisherman's Park 9/21/14

Fished just below Comowingo Dam launching out of Fisherman's Park. I was on the water at dawn to try some top water. Fish were jumping everywhere but they were mostly carp. Landed two smallies on a popper...both under sixteen inches.

Switched to soaking live eels on a fish finder rig. Picked up a few smaller flatheads, then finally landed one worth photographing. Looking forward to cooking this bad boy up.

By the way, the vultures absolutely destroyed my car. I heard horror stories but completely forgot about them. Looking up at the parking lot while on the water, there were at least ten of them chewing on my wiper blades and eating the foam off my Thule kayak racks. I'm thinking I was the lucky one because everything on my car usually smells like fish. Their claws left some serious scratches in my paint. Oh well....that's fishing...still had a great time!!

I see you didn't wait too long to get up there and get one! Around late April/early May you'll catch that size and bigger all day!

      Did you weigh it?

Nice catches. Too bad about the vultures -- I never heard that they were so destructive.

Wow that's crazy. I wonder why they had such a fascination with your vehicles weatherstripping? Sorry to see that!

Was thinking about fishermans park later in the fall, not anymore, heard from the locals that those turkey vultures are everywhere. No fish is worth a $2000-4000 paint job.

You could always purchase a cheap car cover or actually launch on the Cecil county side across the dam. Octoraro Creek has a soft launch. Luckily the scratches are superficial, once you get that first scratch the rest don't count. I'm almost finding humor in the situation, my vehicle looked like a dead carcass.
