Had an odd day where I caught lots of species, but not lots of quantity. Started the day at St Inigoes (Smith Creek) with a gorgeous sunrise and water as flat as any kayaker could ever ask for. Picked up 3 undersize rock (16") and one blue in the first hour but then nothing. Baitfish everywhere. I just couldn't get the pattern dialed in. Went to Cuckold creek (Clark's Landing) in the afternoon to catch the rising tide. Picked up a flounder on a crank bait while trolling for rocks. Decent size, but 1" short of legal. The main river had so much boat traffic that I decided crossing over to Point Patience was too much of a risk, so back into the creek where I got a speckled trout, this very nice 17" red drum, a couple of decent blues, and what looked like a herring, but I'm not sure. The drum was easily the best fight I've had in a while. Caught it tight against a rip rap wall which made the dance even more exciting. That made 6 species today.

It's always good to catch a variety of swimmers. I've yet to find a red this year as opposed to 2 yrs ago when I caught lots of small ones.
