  • Rocky Gorge White Bass?

Years ago I remember catching a white bass out of Rocky Gorge when the water was extremely low. Talking to DNR they said that they had stocked some a couple years prior but had limited success in locating any in later surveys/shockings, but I was curious to see if anyone had run into one when they have been out on Rocky Gorge.

And before you question was is a striper I caught, or possibly a white perch. It wasn't. I do know the difference there.

I believe there could be hybrids as well. I have a friend who says he and his father used to catch a lot of white bass at one of the wssc lakes back in the day. It's also very possible he didnt know the difference.

Interesting. I didn't know any were in Maryland.

I caught some in Clarks Hill Lake, GA years ago and I caught some white bass x striper hybrids in the same lake.

White bass looked like fat white perch to me, but larger -- no stripes. The hybrids have broken stripes on their sides.

        Both were excellent fighters.

Probably a striper or white perch.

I haven't gotten a white (silver) bass on this side of the Mississippi. Caught a lot of them back home.

They are good fighters and fun when boiling on the surface thrashing bait...kind of like what's going on in the bay right now with stripers and blues.

I have hooked a few white bass on deep cranks last year. Nothing of size really worth talking about, like 6". They like to school the open water like white perch. I'm sure if u chase the schools around and throw small beetle spins or inline spinners you could nab some
