I did see birds hitting the water about .5 mile from me but paddling into the wind and chop made it impossible to get there. At least one of the guys I saw got to the spot in a hobie. Just couldn't gain enough ground with that wind.

Can you launch from the south river farm park? That should be protected from the wind a little better.

Yeah, the current was ripping pretty hard. I made it to the birds shortly after launching and lost a large striper at the side of my yak reaching for my net. I don't know why I even brought a net for striper...still in flounder and speck mode I guess. I got one more at 17" at that spot when the charter boats headed over stopped my fun with their stupid motors.

I went all the way across the mouth of the river and trolled along the rocks on the other side for a bit. Contemplated running out to the lighthouse, but maybe on a calmer day during the week with less boat traffic. On the way back, I got a few more undersized fish. We were catching small ones right up pretty close to the launch. I forgot my sandwich in the truck and had to cut the day shorter than I wanted to due to lack of energy from pedaling so far in that crazy current.

Good seeing everybody out there. Very nice day and I will definitely hit Triton again soon since it is just about the closest spot for me to get out into the bay.

Mdfisherman57...you should have stayed, the wind and waves laid down pretty nice not long after you left. Glad to hear you made it back safe, you were pretty far out there last time I saw you and that was some pretty tough current and wind.

Yea it was nice meeting you john. Yea I was hoping it would but my arms where becoming fatigued trying to Bob in the current and waves. Every time I'd troll it seemed to be a line got tangled or something. It was just a tad to strong for me and a paddle keeping up. I will admit seeing you with your drive was pretty cool though. You all were able to fight that current quite well! Glad to hear you all were successful in getting the fish! I did see those charters swarm right has you someone was on them.

I totally understand how frustrating it is trying to fish in those type of conditions while paddling. I think you would have had some luck on the stripers if you just kept at it a little longer.

I used to paddle current like that on a regular basis down at cbbt and other places in that area before getting the hobie. Pretty painful with a reconstructed shoulder, which is one of the reasons I finally switched over to pedaling. If you ever want to head down and try cbbt, that type of current is actually just an average day there. One time I had to paddle as hard as I could for 4 hours straight to make it back from the 1st island in current heavier than that, not even fishing but just trying to make it back safe because next stop down there is middle of the ocean.

Was nice meeting you guys today, it was a bit choppy out but it did lighten up later round 12. I did manage to limit out, considering the charters swarming me when I first Hooked up. Lol. It was a good day with good people. IMG_950339889079368.jpg

Thinking about heading back over there this morning. A little rain in the forecast, but I guess the fish are already wet. Plus I can try out the official Sou'Wester hat my Mom just brought back from Nova Scotia for me.

Pretty nice morning out there, a little choppy and rainy but current was much easier than yesterday. Launched at 8 and almost limited out before 9:30, but one that I thought for sure was going to be a keeper was only like 17 7/8" with lips tightly closed on the measuring board. Took a little longer to get another keeper, but caught about 8 or so in the 16-19.5" range. Birds were working the South River and even saw some breaking fish this morning. Charter boats were swarming the mouth of the river. Saw a bunch of them out a couple miles directly in front of the launch, but not sure if they were doing much out there.

Tried out the Sou'Wester hat and that thing is awesome for fishing in the rain. Highly recommend getting one if you don't have nice rain hat.

I'm soaked! Thank god it wasn't cold out. Caught at least 8 strippers all between 14"-17" and one at 24. That's my PB stripper so far. Made it all the way to south park farms. 24" spit up a small silver shad about 3". By far this is my highest pillage so far in the bay area and this will spoil me for other times of the year!

Still looking for a blue if anybody has a hint. Something big hit my repala minnow and came off after breaking the split ring leaving me with a slightly chewed up lure. Would have liked to see what it was.

John, Lance, Rob-Nice meeting you guys on Sunday. Ended up exploring up river a little bit in the new Revo. Found a nice spot that produced a few keepers. Also got three keepers at the end of the day not too far from the launch. Ended up with one 13.5" bluefish and 29 striped bass. Eight were keeper size with the largest at 22.5". It was really rough at the start but was much nicer on the lee side of the river mouth. Lance-pretty impressed that you paddled out there. Having only recently switched to pedals, I can appreciate the effort it takes to paddle in conditions like that. Hope to see you guys out there again.

Nice seeing you deleonjo. Liked the new revo 13 you acquired and really makes me think how useful they are with conditions we experienced that day. Has me thinking but was great seeing everyone and making something out of the conditions!
