Backdoc and I fished the Lower Susquehanna Sunday evening for the top water bite. We launched at the mouth of Deer Creek around 4:30pm. Water was flowing at 34,000 cfm which has now become my personal highest flow rate for me to venture out on the river.
Mike and I were spun around a few times and ran a few quick Boulder chutes but finally made it to our destinations. Without being able to hold position we anchored on some rocks and decided to wade in the water. Mike has had great success previous weeks nailing the striped fellows, but not this night. We both had a few swirls and blow ups but I only managed one smallmouth.
I struggled getting back to launch with my 10 footer so Backdoc came back to help with moral support...great having a buddy system since we fished till it was pitch dark and it was hard avoiding the shallow Rapids.
I was out of my comfort zone, but glad I ventured out...I will be going again for sure!
