  • Invitation: Fort Smallwood Park Boat Ramp Groundbreaking 10:30 am Tuesday 10/28/14

    Hi all,

Please come to the Fort Smallwood Boat Ramp Groundbreaking at 10:30 am next Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

This is huge. It will be the *first* county-owned public boat ramp in the county. One of our guys pushed this project for more than *twenty* years. That's stamina.

We don't want the next boat ramp to take that long. Please come and show your support in front of the current County Executive and at least one County Executive candidate.

Please come with your kayak on your car even if you're going right back to work after the groundbreaking. A lot of us went to the last Water Access Committee meeting with our kayaks on our cars and that parking lot made a big impression.

Thank you for your support of public water access. We are all in this together.

Invitation: Fort Smallwood Boat Ramp Groundbreaking 10:30 am Tuesday October 28 2014

    Dear Water Access Advocates,

You're invited to join County Executive Laura Neuman, and the Department of Recreation & Parks on Tuesday, October 28 at 10:30 am, for the groundbreaking of Anne Arundel County's first public boat ramp at Fort Smallwood Park in Pasadena, MD. This new addition to the park will provide county residents trailerable boat access as the Department continues to increase public water access throughout the county.

Fort Smallwood Park is known for its excellent fishing and bird watching, the historic Cedar Pavilion, and the Bill Burton Fishing Pier. The park's prime location where the Patapsco River meets the Chesapeake Bay is an ideal location for the county's newest water access point.

We look forward to seeing you at the groundbreaking.

    Sincerely,

    Rick Anthony, Director
Anne Arundel County Recreation & Parks

The groundbreaking got a good preview article in Sunday's Baltimore Sun:

And the weather forecast for tomorrow is sunny - a little windy, but sunny.

I was able to rearrange my schedule so I will be there. Then if anyone wants to go fishing... let's go!

Price hasn't been set. This is the groundbreaking, I think the ramp is to be completed in a year. Until then there's the sandy beach kayak launch on the southeast side of the park.

Does anyone here use the swipe card at Sandy Point? How does that work?

I went fishing last night and the bite was too good to leave in time for the groundbreaking so
I will miss it...sorry. About the swipe pass @ SPSP.when you buythe MD State Park Passport for $75 for the year, it gives you free entry for everyone in your vehicle up to 10 people to all the MD StateParks, discount atconcession stand, & free boat launch. Because SPSP is open 24 hrs for boat launching & fishing, the swipe card gets you in after the gate is shut down for the night. The swipe card is only used at SPSP. When you buy the passport from the DNR office at SPSP then you get the swipe card. If uou buy it elsewhere or online you dont get the swipe card unless you go to the DNR office @ SPSP, show them your hangtsg passport and you ask for the swipe card. It's great! I use it frequently!
