  • Susquehanna Flats - Yellow Perch

Late post from the weekend. Fished with Goody - Sparky - Mweber for yellow perch. Jean Roberts was iced in with at least 3-4inches of ice and we launched from the rocks. Goody and I used minnows and Sparky and Mweber used grubs both pretty successful. They were hanging in 40-60ft of water. Nice day out on the water the wind did kick up a good bit towards noon and made for a little extra work to get back in. Came home with limits mostly 10"-11" YP.

Thanks for the post. I really like to go out this weekend and launch from Jean Roberts. This Sat is predicting 70% rain so I'll shoot for Sunday. Would love to have some company since this will be my very first time fishing in that area for YP.

Those fish fried up great that night!

I didn't realize you took a pic of me rocking the three rods in the water. Unfortunately I never got a single bite on two of those rods, but no tangles!

Don - I think Sparky said he was trying to get out this weekend and I might have permission from "the boss" to go out Sunday myself. But if Sunday does happen for me, I may actually try to pre-fish for the Delaware Paddle Sports tournament that is coming up next weekend. It's a tough decision, I have never fished the nearby area where the tournament will be held, but I also cannot fry up any bass that I catch.

He told me he'd gone but the water up there was fast and muddy. It did not make for good fishing.

This is the first year in a long time that I didn't fish for yellow perch. I look forward to the roe every winter. It's just hard to pull away from going after the ones with horizontal stripes.

Yeah - I was concerned about the water up there.

Fished the Sasssfras yesterday - not even a bite. Hardly marked anything. Water temp was 34*-38* with ice along the shore. Hundreds of dead Mud Shad , some up to 18".

Figured they couldn't escape the cold water (possibly low O2?).

Everything is still frozen around here. Just put the ice fishing gear away.

A road trip might be required for some decent pullage.

It was nice to get out Friday but one failed perch trip was enough for me. This weekend I'll start hunting for the last cows on the flats. Lost what I estimated to be an easy 40 lber last year in the last week of March right at my feet. Still trying to beat a 47 from 2011

I also went out with Shady and Romo last Friday. Nice fellas. Man those hobie kayaks are real sweet. Must be really nice to be hands free fishing while negotiating the current. Like them, I also skunked.

Peddle kayaks are awesome fishing vessels...Love my Hobie. I've heard good things about the Propel kayaks too, but never used one.
