the other day i was at the beach getting ready to launch to do some croaker fishing.some women walking her dog came over & while i was talking to her, her dog knocked my 'abu garcia ambassaduer bcx 5600' in the sand.i was terribly mad because my whole day was ruined...anyway, i took my reel home and took it apart piece by piece,i washed & cleaned all sand.oiled and greased it also.for some reason the drag wont work on it any more.does any body know of any reel repair guys in the local community.or do any of you guys fix reels?

There is a guy in Arlington that does good work for about that price too. It's far from you though.
Sounds like you have the two concave washers in the wrong orientation though. The drag won't tighten right? Try taking the side plate off and check those washers that sit ontop of the main gear and drag stack. You should be able to find the schematic online to see the proper orientation. I got a brand new 6501 C3 for a fraction of the price bc the guy thought he broke something but it turned out to just be the washer stack. 10 second fix and I got a new reel! So if the pieces are there and you got the sand out, it should be an easy fix that you can take care of. If you have trouble finding the diagram let me know. Also check out Alan Tani's site, he is the defacto standard for reel repair.Last edited by Redfish12; 06-06-2011, 07:40 PM.Used to fish more.

The side plate is on all the way? Is sleeve in the right position? Where did you put the two bent washers? When you put the star drag back on, did you remember the spacer under the handle and did you screw it in far enough?
I'm pretty sure I can help, just need to know what you are working with. If you have some pics that could help.Used to fish more.
