Agree with tight lines. Northerly winds 5-10 and flood tide didn't make for a smooth morning. Great meeting Zack and his younger brother, plus tight lines. Everyone caught something. I got one 17". Just got to choppy about 9:30

You can usually paddle 3-4 mph. That's the ideal speed length . Others use pedals. Son use motors. I personally just paddle with the rods hanging off the back and to the side a bitZach Bennett

Pedaling definitely helps. It's probably easier to cover more water by pedaling than paddling for most of us. But most kayakers I know can paddle at the same speed I pedal. Rarely do I or they exceed 3 mph. I'd guess that most of my fish are caught between 2 and 2.5 mph.
At this time of year it's easier to find stripers by trolling. They are not in a warm water pattern where they are dispersed and tight to structure (I mean within a foot of riprap or on submerged humps for example) chasing baitfish. When that occurs they can be caught by casting to structure, similar to the way people fish for LM bass. But now, it's easier to find them in schools by trolling. You can certainly catch them at this time of year by casting but you'd have to find them first. Trolling helps us find them.Mark
