I worked the shorelines in Weems Creek (both sides; above and below the two bridges) this afternoon for two hours. I caught a single white perch -- not impressive by itself, but it represents the advance guard of the white perch invasion. This date matches up well with my first perch caught in the Severn for the past few years. Typically that happens about the second week in May.
The perch was fooled by a classic perch lure -- a Woody's feather spinner in 1/8-oz size. I had a small pickerel on my very first cast of the day near the ramp into Weems. I look forward to many relaxing perch catching days this summer.
