  • Perch on the Susquehanna

Everything seems to be late this year. The perch on the river are no exception. Got out last night for a few hours doing what I like to do the most. I took my kayak up in the rock pools of the Susquehanna below Deer Creek. I got into the perch in great numbers. One pool had so many perch in it that they where tailing out of the water. I was catching fish on most every cast. It was odd, almost all of the fish where small. These fish averaged 5-8 inches with a few that may have been 10 but nothing larger. Usually I catch a few big ones when I find big schools like this. They liked chartreuse paddle tails and 1/8 oz. jig heads. Caught a couple dink smallies and had a little schoolie striper take the perch jig as well. may15striper.jpgmay15perch.jpg

Nice job! Can't wait to do some perch fishing this summer when the rock-bite cools down!
