  • Sun 5/30 Report: Susquehanna River

Definitely seems like there was a settle down pattern this weekend.

Got on the water around 7am to an incoming tide and light southernly wind. Trolled from Lapidum to rock polls for Stripers and struck out. At the rock pools I targeted white perch and ended up getting 5 small small mouth bass and one small catfish at near bottom depths. My perch lure was a jighead grub combo (which did nothing), most of my SMB hits came from a deep diving segmented rapala shad. Stayed on the water until noon and trolled back to the ramp to heavy chop and picked up winds (no action).

Yeah, I don't know what happened to the white perch run this year. It's usually pretty good there this time of the year. I fished there twice in the past three weeks with not much luck. The first time we caught lots of perch but all small ones and a week ago I didn't catch a single perch. Everyone I've talked to said same thing that the big ones never showed up.

That whole river sucks compared to what it was 10-15 years ago. It used to be easy for a 50+ smallie day with a ton of perch mixed in. Now, I feel like I'm musky fishing.

I went out last weekend. Had a nice quick striper topwater bite in the morning then three dinky smallies before the wind kicked me off the river.
