  • New Member, Moving to Annapolis Area

Mostly doing an introduction and say I'm excited to find an active message board for fishing. I've fished all my life but will be new to kayak fishing. Had considered a kayak for a couple years and this move is perfect area to jump in. I will have easiest access to the Severn so that will probably be the majority of my fishing.

Other than reading online, I'm unfamiliar with most of the local fish. I grew up in Louisiana on large mouth bass, bream, and catfish. Later moved into specks and reds which has been my favorite target as an adult although military moves have limited my fishing. Mostly geared up with medium and medium light spinning gear and a couple bait casters. I've read a couple of the other newbie posts and look forward to learning. Not sure if I'll catch much of this fishing season but hope to buy a kayak by mid-fall. Still debating whether to go paddle or foot propulsion route.

Welcome aboard. If the Severn is going to be your go to spot you got a nice one all year. Check out Backyard boats in Annapolis they have all the line set up to test ride... Hobie

I've spent a good amount of time drooling at Hobies online. Can't wait to get to the area and try one. I really like the idea of hands free propulsion for fishing. Only drawback I see is the weight for loading and unloading.

You got several endorsements for pedal drive Hobies. Before making a final decision, take a look at the pedal drive Native Slayer Propels. If weight is an issue, look at the Slayer Propel 10 with a hull weight of only 57 lbs, plus a weight capacity of 500 lbs.

Initially I was looking at the Pro Angler online but didn't like the weight. I wondered about Outback. It seems to have everything I need. Trying to balance features and mobility. I was not aware of Native Slayer Propels until yesterday reading on here so I will start researching. I found the Hobie by a youtube video of someone fishing for stripers on the Severn. My current local stores don't have any foot propels and I didn't plan on buying until I get to Annapolis anyway so I will check out Backyard Boats when I get there.

                Thanks everyone!
