  • St. Jerome's Creek, July 1, 2015

Got everything lined up exactly the way I wanted yesterday- falling tide right before dark at St.Jerome's Creek in St. Mary's County- the bigger stripers usually are there feeding on the baitfish as they come across the flats in the mouth of the creek...plenty of bait yesterday, but the fish had lockjaw- nada...nothing..threw everything I had in the milk crate...not a hit, not a nibble...4 hours of trolling, casting, jigging (love jigging with my new St. Corix Avid X rods- totally perfect for it)....nothing doing- no breaking fish...I tried four different top water lures including my go to "always catches them" lure...not a bump...total skunk- can't explain it, but that is why it is called fishing instead of catching...good exercise, though- loaded up at dead dark and drove home...

Ron, thanks for the report. Big bummer on nothing happening in the creek. The stripers have really been hit or miss this year and difficult to predict when and where they'll show up. A day like you had makes the good ones so much sweeter.

Conditions looked perfect, but then who knows- full moon, lots of fresh water from heavy rains, etc.

Thanks for the update. I was wondering how ST Jerome Creek has been doing this early summer. To bad on the Skunk. But like you said, it was a good workout.

I've put in at Buzz's Marina. I haven't been this year but last year he let kayaks launch for half price,, $5. There is a closer marina to the outlet of the creek but I haven't used it.

There is an unimproved end of the road place at the end of Fresh Pond Neck Road that can be used to launch as well as Buzz Marina- like has been said The owner is a really nice guy and charges kayaks half price
