  • Long time, no post. Jonas 8/10

Sorry about the inactivity, we had a baby girl in July. This was my first trip out since.

I fished Jonas with a friend who is new to kayak fishing. Launched around 7:00 and found a lot of small rock stacked up in about 15-25'. They were throughout the water column. I had six to 18" on a Bustem Baits in pearl and he had two on topwater. As soon as the tide stopped, so did the bite. We were back in about 10:30.

No keepers but we had a good time!image.jpg

Sounds like you got your keeper in July. Glad you were able to break away for a few hours.

Congrats on the daughter and it's always great to get out on the water after a layoff.

Congrats and its understandable that you wouldn't be concentrating on fish, but glad you had some fun!

Hey Doug, good hearing a report from your way. Congratulations on your new daughter!

I wonder if there's anything heating up yet upriver in your neck of the woods?

                Thanks, everyone!

No personal knowledge up river, but while I was out a charter boat with passengers made its way north of the 50 bridge and out of site, so I am assuming the answer is yes. If I'm lucky enough to make it out this weekend I'll check it out and let you know. It was interesting that everything hit a soft plastic for me. I had an x-rap out as well and it got no attention at all.

I had the same experience, got nothing with xrap but soft paddletail was working. I did have a crystal minnow that got hit hard and lost a rod so don't know what it was Just invested in some rod floats, so hope that doesn't happen again.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that! I almost lost one, but my hard hit came from something on the bottom and the drag set a little too tight. It was a DAA on behalf of the operator.

I typically pull a soft plastic out one side and a hard bait out the other. You never know which they will want. I will say that I have far more luck with straight BA's than I do paddletails. My preference is the Saltwater Assassin in Glow with the red tail. They don't seem to like the green tail.
