I highly recommend that you bite the bullet and purchase a (new) Kokatat dry or semi dry suit. I paddled several winters, somewhat irresponsibly, using a hodge-podge of equipment including waders. I am really happy to finally be in a drysuit.......
This afternoon I was paddling into a solid 15-18 knots of NW breeze and a chop and a companion made mention of how much more secure he feels this time of year when wearing his dry-suit. It's amazing technology in that they are lightweight and non-restrictive, plus you get a vent to pee out of....life is good! As Nike says, "just do it".....

I learned something the other day. First off I have the kokatat semidry suit. The only thing semi is the neoprene collar, the rest is like a full dry. Here's what I learned. Even with the relief zipper, an old guy needs to start unzipping at the first hint that you have to go. Another must is that everything between you and the relief zipper had better have a fly, warm-up pants don't. As for the relief zipper..... who ever thought it should belaced left to right across your belly button?
I feel very safe, warm and comfortable in the dry suit.

I'm new to kayaking this year and as much as I want to go out daily, I'm not so sure it's worth dying for. I'd love a dri suit, but not in the budget yet. Those of you using a wetsuit or waders have you tried getting in your yaks, from a spill & how long does it take (i'd try in the summer first) and isn't exposure & hypothermia a serious concern? Once you are wet & cold how quickly can you get dry and rewarmed up? I'm just asking & maybe I'm worried about something i don't need to be.Red 2015 Hobie Outback

I'm in the (semi) dry suit group. Highly recommend going that route. Relief zipper is worth it.
When the morning is cold, but it's going to heat up quickly and the water temp is still warm enough waders are fine...or just suck it up and get wet from the knees down while launching because you know it's going to be hot otherwise. This time of year, full immersion should be taken into account, whether you do waders and a dry top or go all the way with a dry suit.
Kokatat SuperNova Angler Hydrus 3L is what I have, and the only full suit I've used on the kayak, but I highly recommend it.Hobie fleet:
