The year is quite young, but I have been lucky enough to find some fish both days.
New Years Day was a tough bite with the winds making even traditionally sheltered waters a bit sporty. Despite that, I needed to get out and clear my head of the cobwebs that I put in there the night before. I managed to convince one feisty 20" Pickerel to the boat in a Magothy trib before the need to nap overwhelmed my need to fish.

After a solid nights sleep, I set out with Scott Taylor to calm seas and minimal wind. There was frost on the deck of my boat as I pushed away for the launch and my electronics said the water was 40 degrees. John Veil join us later.
We played around near Greenery Pt and I managed to coax several hungry rockfish to the boat on a 1oz bucktail in about 15' of water. I had given up finding fish that shallow for the season, but all the reports to the contrary made me itch for pulling drag and strong head shakes.
I got both while landing 5 fish, mostly in the high teens and low twenties. As I let a fat 23'er slip back into the water, I told myself 2016 was going to be a good year. It was certainly off to an auspicious start!
As the winds started to pick up, we headed in, but not before sitting back and appreciating where we were and what we were doing. It was good to see the sun again!
