  • Yellow perch biting in Charles county?

They started biting down at Allen's Fresh. Saw a nice report from the DNR website Anglers log. I went down to check it out yesterday afternoon with my kayak. Spoke to another kayaker who was there from 11-4 and he caught a few upstream. I caught nothing upstream of the bridge, but I faced the winds and went downstream to the cedar tree area. Got two keeper males back to back, and then that was it. Was close to shore. So the run is just barely starting.

You can park on the shoulder just after the first bridge (when driving from rt 301). Drag your kayak towards the bridge and then you will see a little path through the brush down to the creek. That is where I launch. On higher tides, you can launch right near where you park, there is a small bay that fills in with the tide. I used to catch tons of yellow perch there. Last two years barely any as my timing has been wrong. White perch show up a week or so later.
