  • Wasn't expecting much 3/30/2016

Did some yellow perch fishing earlier in March.. with great success. My first time pursuing them and they sure were great eating fish.

Yesterday was my "Opening Day" for rockfish...
    Wasn't really expecting much.
Wind was a real beast but luckily there wasn't much of a fetch so waves were small.
Chilly frost on the car in the morning.. wore a knit hat all day.

Worked one area for a short period and saw four gulls picking at the water and paddled to join them.
No boiling top water action.. but the fish were there.
More gulls moved in, after about a dozen fish the wind picked up a lot... called it a day by 1pm.
Only three hours on the water, shortest trip to date.

All fish were over 20 inches. White bucktail with white soft trailer, silver and black stretch, silver and blue stretch, didn't matter.
Ten to fifteen feet of water.
My homemade "hawg trough" only goes to 24inches.. so the one pic has fish going over the end.

Great opening day of rockfishing for me !

The pics aren't very good. First time using this phone for pictures.
Considering it's catch and release.. thought I'd at least try.

Nice healthy fish. Surprised anyone fished yesterday with the wind but your report proves otherwise

Good report. We are blessed this year with abundant rockfish early in the spring.

By the way, the wind yesterday was low during the morning, but got pumping in the afternoon.
