An adult osprey weighs between 3 and 4.5 pounds.

A 15 inch striper can weigh 2 to 3 pounds. An 18 inch striper can weigh over 4 pounds.

While an osprey does weigh more than 5 ounces its ability to lift its own weight quite impressive.

Few of us can say the same.

Here is the most severe injury I have seen in an active fish. This wounded pickerel attacked my minnow in a Severn tributary in March 2014.

Ospreys are incredible birds. They do get confused from time to time. I once saw one carrying a nice perch, only to drop it so she could dive into the bay to grab another.
