  • May 7th Double Report

After 11 days of rain and cooler temps I was not jumping up and down to attempt crappie. They are kinda finicky when weather is cooler. But I changed my wet socks and went fishing. First spot we did not score one target fish. A few bass and few keeper yellows.

Then we ran into the catfish and had a blast with them. With more than half the bait gone and still no crappie. Time to move..and it was good thing we did. 2 over 15 inches and one right at 14 inches..A big green trout and it was on till we ran out of bait.

I pulled in to Capt Mike's at 640AM. He had his shoes off and feet up trying to dry out his socks a little from the wet grass. Oh, didn't you hear, eleven straight days of rain. He was smoking a cigar and I asked him could I take off my shoes and was it too early for bourbon and could we just sit here all day. Neither of us had a lot of confidence in today after all the rain. The river and coves were full of floating debris and the water was cold but, we caught fish. Not hot and heavy and not a two man limit but, but we caught fish. Man was I tickled. Nice fish too. All in one little area. We spent a lot of time admiring a mating pair of turkeys. My crew are going turkey hunting next weekend and couldn't believe seeing turkeys near DC and right next to I-95.
