  • Chesapeake Summer Slam Tournament

We are excited to announce the first annual Chesapeake Bay Summer Slam Derby fishing tournament. The derby will target striped bass, blue fish, red fish, sea trout and spanish mackerel in the Chesapeake Bay with the objective of catching the longest 3-fish "Slam" to win. It is a catch and photo tournament that will run from July 1 through Sptember 17. There is a division for kayak anglers so I hope some SnaggedLine members will participate. The four divisions (angler, fly, kayak and junior) will allow anglers of all styles and ages to compete. All waters of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries in MD and VA are open in the competition.

There will be prizes for the winning slam in each division of the four divisions, as well as prizes for the largest fish of each species regardless of division. Registration is now open and cost is $40 per division. Anglers will receive a custom tournament performance shirt and ticket to our end of derby party at the Big Owl Tiki Bar in Kent Narrows with their entry.

Click the link below for complete rules and to register today and good luck!

The tournament is being hosted by technicalfisherman.com and in the interest of transparency I am affiliated with the Technical Fisherman.

I'm in for sure. Question though....for the 3 fish slam, are we limited to three different species of fish or can they all be the same species?

Thanks for your interest. The winner is the person with the longest conbined measurement for three different species.

        Thanks for the clarification.

I have one more question regarding the measuring devise. On the TF forum page it says we must use a yard stick and that fish larger than 36" will be estimated by the judges. Is it OK if we use a 48" stick? With large red drum, they will literally cover an entire 36" yard stick to the point that you won't even know it is under there; especially on your lap in a kayak. This even happens with a 48" stick, but at least the extra length helps some.

Haha! Well, you just blew up his plan to try and use 3 bull reds to scam a win... He's gonna have to work for it now!

Just an FYI. We are having a happy hour this Thursday (7-14) at the Big Owl Tiki Bar in Kent Narrows. I hope some of the Snaggedline guys can make it.
