Going out to Jonas Green Park next Thursday with two friends
Should I still be targeting Perch with an occasional Rock fish?? When do you guys thing the croakers will be in?
Thanks,
Stan
Like Bruce, I cannot address croakers. I don't target them.
But at this time of year when I launch from Jonas I carry two rods appropriate for trolling or for casting 1/4 to 1/2 oz. lures to stripers and one or two light rods suitable for casting 1/8 oz. lures to perch.
If the Stripers stripers are finicky, I rely on the perch for pullage. And as I've said here before, stripers often swim with white perch in the shallows. An 18 to 20 inch striper is a nice surprise on a perch rod.
Good luck,
Mark

Went out, got 8 keeper perch, and one 3 inch long rock fish. Total perch landed was about 15. Launched at 2:00 came back in at 8:00. I thought I was going to get heat stroke. My friends were 30ish-- and they were fine. I need to remember that I'm 60.
Saw lots of dead and dying fish. What has worked best for me is small spoons. Also, it seems lthat the perch move. This time Weems was Dead, closer to the Dr 50 bridge was hotter.
Older guys, like me, drink 1 gallon of water the day of going out, then more water while on the kayak. I did this, and still I got this massive headache and felt very weak.
You mean young guys like you...add ten years then you can say older guys like me...

If I did that I'd have to stay within 50 yards of the launch and the Porta-Potties!

Ron: Thanks for the encouraging word. I use the gym times a week, work like a dog on my latest forcloure, so I am in good shape. But still I wonder how long I have to kayak. I love see my HOW good you are doing--and 10 years my senior. Keep it up!
Mark and Mike: That's why I carry my 'Old-guy cup'... I'll let you guess what that is............
