  • You thought cownose rays suck.. try a 35ft Catamaran...

So went out at Jonas... met some guy early, a pier crabber, and he tells me there are a bunch of dolphins that swam by.
I'm like "are you sure dude ?" And he is quite adamant that's what he saw. Saw him again at the end of the day...
and he said they came back and some boats were following them. And again quite adamant and it will be on the news..

Any way... working my way up river (north side) towards Weems, now make my way across river and a +35ft Catamaran is coming out of Weems.
He goes to my starboard... and snags my port rear trolling jig... it lets loose... and bang, snags my starboard rear trolling jig....
Line is peeling off.. he's looking at my rig bent over and line peeling out... just keeps going motoring away.. looking at me.
Cut the line just before most of it had gone off the spool... Many thoughts went through my mind... just put my hands up in the air as in "Dude !!!!!."
Oh well first time that happened.. so obviously next time I'll be blowing whistle and waving them around "wide berth please !"

First time ever, tossed a newly purchased roll of line in the car for the day. Went back to Jonas, re-spooled the reel.

Caught one 12" or so rock, and a bunch of tiny rocks while perch fishing. Caught a bunch of perch.. certainly no monsters but 10 I kept for at least some dinner treats.

Jonas was the most disgusting I had ever seen it... stinky, diapers on the beach... port-o-potties... horrible.
I guess it's Monday after the weekend at Jonas... I should have known better to even go in potty. But it's been
three years since I launched at Jonas.

Don't know about dolphins being on the news... but look for "News Flash at 11... Kayak fisherman catches 35 foot Catarmaran... but Cat' gets away !"

I saw that cat at anchor in Weems this morning before it left. Was a family of four. Obviously not fisherman?

I was coming in perpendicular to Weems... couldn't really tell if the Cat' was anchored at first or making headway.
I was in about 20ft of water... there is tons of deep water there... it was when they made their turn to go out to the bay when it happened. Not blaming them... it would have been cool if they cut their engines... they were looking at me the whole time.

Considering I use el'cheapo line because I troll four lines, and tangles occur often and cut lines out... it's no big deal.
Oh well.. nice day, quick dash out because I had planned going some where else... winds were rocking on the open bay and at the last minute went to Jonas, as opposed to not going anywhere and staying home...

I'm sorry you had a bad day in the Severn.

But the Dolphin story is for real:

        http://ulocal.wbaltv.com/mediadetail/26443843

Actually, the first "dolphin in the Severn" story I found on the internet was from July 2014 ... from the River Severn in the U.K.

But then I found the video of today's sighting in our Severn.

Anyway, tough luck with the catamaran and diapers and stuff. That's a real shame.
