  • Ft. Smallwood 7-24

Launched out of Smallwood early Friday morning. Picked up a handful of fish early before hooking into a 22" rock. While removing the hook I noticed the tail of a fish that hadn't been completely swallowed. Ended up being a nearly 10" bunker. So if you are looking to match the hatch.....there ya go. Activity died down for an hour or so at high tide a little after 9. Once the tide started rolling out the schoolies came on strong. I was trolling two rods with two jigheads each. Three times I doubled up on a rod, though one of them jumped off at the boat. I also had fish on each rod once, but couldn't keep tension on both and one got a way. All fish other then the keeper were under 12".

Edit: Ignore the wrong date in the title. This report was from 7-22.

Great report, so many places I would like to fish with not enough time.

Launched at Fort Smallwood this morning 7/29. Took my friends son out in my old yak and I was in my new outback. Drew had never kayak fished before and I was going to troll and jig for rockfish, But we didn't get on the water till after 10 so I decided we would just jig for perch. I started getting them pretty steady so I gave Drew one of the lures I was using. He still wasn't catching any so we switched rods and he started catching them and I wasn't. I figured out surprisingly that they weren't hitting his rod because he tied directly to the braid and I had a leader on. So the 2 of us probably caught over 70 fish including 6 baby rockfish, 1 croaker and 1 channel cat. We kept nine of the bigger fish for dinner. The biggest perch was 11 1/2".20160729_140802.jpg20160729_152348.jpg
