  • St George's triple play

Went out for an afternoon fish in St Georges Creek with my son after he led a local coaching clinic.

The Day started with perch.....about 20 of the Perch over 10"..... and a couple feisty puppy drum. At dusk, we stumbled on to a little gut and a strong out going tide. There was a school of 19-20" rockfish hanging by the outflow.....there was a brief, chaotic, violent topwater bite till dark. My son was so happy to land a nice keeper.

    lunch today was delicious.....

      Nice outing.

Is it common for redfish to be in the creek?

Nice work Kevin you and your son put in. It's been productive there the last few days, I hope it stays until I get back from Lewes DE later this week

We've been catching drum throughout the lower Potomac this year. Myself and Yak67 have caught them in St. Georges, Smith Creek (St Inigoes), bayside and even fairly far back in Breton Bay. Haven't fished PLO this year but sure they are in the lake as well. Now a keeper sized drum, that's a different story.

St Georges Creek is a large area with lots of habitat friendly to Puppy drum in the years they decide to show up

Thank you. Maybe I'll finally get a redfish this year.

From 1995-2005 my family and about 20 other families with kids would basically take over Camp Merrylande on Saint George's Island for a three day weekend when school was out for the summer around the first of every June.

I broke in my Pungo 120 there for the first time in 2003. Did a little bottom fishing for perch and caught a couple to use for crab bait. Nights were dedicated to a big bonfire and homemade music. The kids loved it. Some of the best family times we ever had was on those weekends.

The kids are all grown now and doing well. Someday maybe we'll get back down there when the grandkids come. That main house nearest the River was quite nice, and perfect for a big get together.
