Dems' were the birds...

Had a spot picked out, a three mile paddle to get there. Just to try something different.
Got to the area... and maybe a half mile away a spot some birds.
Well you know how that is... chasing birds, you get there and they are gone.
But not this time... they stayed, well, actually it's the fish that stayed active.
You know what I mean.

But then it didn't matter... there were pockets of fish every where.
The sonar was lit up like I had never seen it before.

Launched at 7am... limited out by 11am.

And as an added treat.... got to bring home some little fat blues.
None of my soft plastics got chewed up by blues.

Caught over a dozen fish...
Would have like to keep fishing, particularly for blues, but decided to head back early and beat rush hour traffic.
After three weeks no fishing and two weeks no car.... great to bring back dinner.

Ceviche or not... I came home with the fish... stopped off at Safeway... 5 for a $1 Limes.. got some spring onions.. way over priced considering they are sprouting up on eveybody's front lawn... and some Clantro...

Well... I do love my Ceviche... but too tired and lazy to go that way last night....

So.. well it's Smokem' if you Got Em' route today.

Obviously... you know how frugal (cheap) I am... and the old homemade chimmney stack charcole starter, I made a couple of years ago from 35oz Coffee Cans works great
I made it on the fly... came home with fish... no "toxic" starter fluid in the house... looked on the internet... and made my own.

Works great... well.. need some more charcoal... off to the store... got the el'cheapo store brand.

Since I am going to smoke the fish... Oh yes... my "Little Cajun Smoker"... I didn't buy but works great.
Got the smoker 'cause somebody put it on the curb to throw out...
Gold mine find !!!! Pulled pork... etc etc...

And well... too cheap to buy wood chips... off to the wood pile and cut up a bunch of Oak.

One thing great about the smoker is it has a separate, in the middle, basket, for water.
Catches drippings for pork... keeps the fish moist in this process.

Also note... what I do, you may see in the pic... I slice along the top of the dorsal fins... and rip them out.

Well anyway... Ceviche next time.....

And... quoting Ron White (from the series on TV Roadies) ,
"You have to figure out what works for you.... but once you find your band....."

Get out... Go fish.... EXPLORE... find the path less traveled.....
or a Rockin'Fish Band that works... and if you like the Blues... they be playin'.....
And I know a bunch of local musicians jammin' great Polka Perchy Jams...

I LOVE smoked Bluefish. Have made a good spread/dip with it in the past.
