Hope it wasn't a speeding ticket on thhe way home. Exceeding 80 with a kayak on top would be epic.

                      this might take a minute

Ill try to start at the begining but im still in somewhat of a coma from all the fishing.
Saturday was an early start for me, 1am I left my houe and headed down to Ft. Belvoir to meet up with Josh. We left Ft. Belvoir at 230am and embarked on the 4hour drive to meetup with Shadyfisher85, OBX rat,and Grilled Sardine at Oceans 2 East Tackle in VB.
Arrived at Oceans East just after sunrise and met up with everyone. Bait for the day was Fiddler Crabs, CLam and Gulp swimming mullet/shrimp. It was now time to head to the first of 4 different locations to be fished.

FIRST STOP CBBT. We Launched on the VB side of the CBBT and headed out to look for sheepshead. On our way we ran into small blues, Small sea bass, midget croakers, toadfish, and shadyfiher85 and OBX Rat caught some undersize flounder. We fished this area until 1pm and headed back in due to hunger. Shadyfisher85 Stayed out as we headed in.

SECOND STOP. Lynnhaven Inlet. After a quick lunch and another trip to Oceans 2 East we hit up Lynn Haven Inlett, let me tell you that if you dont like strong current this is not the place for you. Fished the inlet until the sun started to set I picked up a 30'' Stripper and a 16'' flounder before we called it and decided to go to the next area. We headd to sonic for some food and Grilled Sardine decided to head home.

THIRD STOP. HRBT lightline. Around 9pm-10pm we headed out on the hrbt to fish the light line. Ive heard many stories about fishing this area however this was my first experience at it. This was one of the coolest things i have ever seen. At one point we saw schools of mid 20'' stripper swiming past us and were surrounded by leaping Gar's flying completely out of the water and blitzing blues. I had a few hook ups but nothing stayed on until i hooked into a nice and feisty 4lb blue. This fish went vertical so many times it was amazing. Pulled out around 2am and OBX Rat decided to call it and head home.

Fourth Stop KIPTOPEAKE CAMPGROUNDS. We decided to go camp the rest of the night over at kiptopeake and by the time we got there we were soooo tired it was insane. I passed out right away and didnt wake until 9-10am.

Fifth Stop Kiptopeake side of CBBT. Launched from behind fishermans island and headed out to try to catch sheepshead and spadefish. Alond the way we found a set of pilings and just started to fish them. After missing a few taps from what i thought was a small tog i hook into something crazy. It turns out to be a 4lb triggerfish (virginia citation size is 4lbs) This thing fought soo hard it was amazing. I Called Josh over to the spot b/c triggerfish school up. ON Josh's second fiddler in he hooks into a 3lb 6oz triggerfish. It bent his Heavy fast rod over well.

We Fished until we felt like the weather was deteriorating and called it. After loading up the yaks we took the fish to be weighed in at Oceans East where the trigger i had kept read on their scale 3lb 15 3/4oz.....really? sooo close but we wanted a second opinion so we went to another shop where it weighed in at 4lb 1oz.....only difference between to two shops was the scale at oceans east you lay your fish on a weight table at the other place you hook the fish in the gill and hang it up for weight.

Im editing the triggerfish video now but im still recovering so its going to be a bit til its done.

Awesome trip we will have to do it again soon.

                          Very nice!

I think the gar's are ribbon fish. They are all over the HRBT right now.

I might have to join you guys next time but I'm not sure if I have the energy to keep up with you guys.

Can't wait to see your video! I managed an 18" keeper flounder after you guys left and also brought home a 10" Blue and 11" Croaker. I stayed out until about 6:30. I went all the way to the first island and the current was ripping and the waves were probably 6-7 feet. I didnt catch anything out there probably because I didnt have enough weight to hold bottom, but I'm glad I went all the way out there to get that experience and it was a fun ride.

As I was coming in I saw some guys spearfishing by the bridge pilings maybe 1/4 mile out at most. They stopped me and asked if they could have some line to make a stringer. So, I gave them some line and they showed me what they had caught. They had a couple of Spadefish that were about 10". They said there was a large school hanging around the pilings and some were much bigger then what they had caught. They also said they'd seen some big sheepshead down there and even a black drum, but the big fish were too fast for their hand spears.

By this time I was out of clams so tried using oysters that I scraped off the piling but only caught a puffer. I also tried the fiddlers and had a few bites, but couldn't hookup. Next time at the CBBT from VA beach side, might be worth trying some of the pilings closer to the beach. It was about 13 feet deep in this area.

Even though I didn't catch anything really big, I was happy about catching my first ever keeper flounder and the blue and croaker were small but tasty!

Glad to here you guys finally got into some good fish.
