i want to catch a puffer, thats next on the list. they look soo cool

I used to catch puffers as a kid in NJ (though we called them blowfish). They used to be really abundant maybe 50 yrs ago, not so much anymore. They are edible btw, not poisonous like some species of puffer.

I don't know for sure if it is a puffer fish or blowfish. Someone told me that they are really good eating but you have to clean them the right way or they are poisonous.

Nice work on the keeper flounder. If that's not epic, it's at least really awesome.

The puffer you caught is a northern puffer. Blowfish and blowtoad are other local names. The small ones are fun to keep in a fish tank. They have a lot of personality, and you can hear them chewing when you feed them. Sometimes they burrow in the sand and hang out until something edible swims by. I caught several medium-sized ones last year at Point Look Out. The other puffer type fish commonly caught down there is a striped burrfish, which looks like a puffer but has points sticking out all over its body.

Yea, a keeper flounder is really awesome for me. Hopefully I'll make it to OC this year for some more keeper flounder and bluefish a little closer to home...

Thanks for the info on the pufferfish. It's definately always interesting to catch something you've never caught before even if its not all that big.
