You absolutely cannot figure it out. When you think you have, you're almost definitely wrong. Today the bite was on. There was wind where I was fishing, muddy water from recent rain, I fished in the middle of the day. Recently I've had what I would consider perfect conditions and been skunked.

I throw my hands up. High tide, low tide, high wind, calm wind, dusk, mid-day, dawn, sunny, cloudy. There are certainly good signs for fishing but sometimes you just have to hope she's in a good mood.

Just remember...

A kayak provides us two major advantages over motor boats: stealth and the ability to work shallow waters tight to structure where some boats cannot enter.

However, we'll never be able to pick up our lines and move to distant areas to find fish like a motor boat.

Our success is dependent on launching relatively close to where the fish are that particular day.

I am taking my neighbor kid to the Bay tomorrow for 4-5 hours for stripers. Are good size stripers gone already?

When you were not catching, I was catching in the same area but in deeper water. That bite is still there but not as intense as it had been. Those rains dropped the water temp several degrees and drove them shallower where you were fishing :-)

Yeah, the bite has definitely picked up in the shallows after the rains. I've attached a flag to the back of my kayak now so I will be visiting the deeper waters now when the waters heat back up.
