I went out for a few hours today looking to connect with a few white perch from the coastal bay creeks that I could bring home for dinner. It's the first time I've been out in over a month. I stuck with casting the small, soft plastic tandem jigs I've had luck with in the past. I tried two different creeks with the same results - no perch. Not even a bump from one.
Plenty of pullage though as I banged out a mudfish trifecta for the day; mudshad, carp, and a bullhead. The mudshad were obviously all unintentionally foul hooked. About 15 of them total. Kept 3 to use as cut bait in the surf later on. Hooked 6 carp too. Two actually hit the jig and were legitimately hooked; the others foul hooked accidentally.
I have no idea why I didn't find any perch? I tried deep, shallow, and everywhere in between looking for them. Maybe another day....
