  • July 14, 2018 Meet & Greet at Lowes Wharf - Update

Well, I saw some post that asking about the results for the July 14, Meet and Greet, so I decided to through this together. Feel free to add any comments, updates, and pictures.

I believe 29 Anglers said that they were coming so this would be the largest Meet and Greet, so far for the year. I arrived at Lowes Wharf at 5:55am. There were plenty of Anglers there already unloading their kayaks. The weather was great, with 4 to 6 mph winds most of the morning. I launched with a few other kayakers at 6:38 am. I was heading towards the northern side of the island, but as I got closer, I saw dozens a flags out as if it was a construction zone (which it was). I decided not to trespass pass the flags into the construction zone where they were expanding Poplar Island. I then proceeded straight ahead to the first small island, Jefferson Island, and that is where I stayed most of the morning. Using a spinner, but most of the time I used a 1/8 ounce jig head with a 4 inch paddle tail and proceeded to catch several 11.5 inch white perch and 60 stripe bass, with two of them being keepers of 21.5 and 22.5 inches. I was limited out by 9:00am. I do not know if anyone else hit their limit, but I know one person caught a 26 incher and won the fish pool back at the restaurant and Paul Goody won the bucket of lures.

The restaurant accommodations where great once again. I had a crab cake lunch with an adult beverage. Everyone had a great time and I saw many fish caught by other anglers. Thank goodness the weather cooperated.

I know everyone there would like to thank the host, Coop1486, for putting together a great meet and greet. I takes a lot of work by everyone who volunteers to get these get togethers off the ground, but Coop did a wonderful job on this one. He met everyone at the ramp, and at lunch he went around table to table checking out every angler at the restaurant.

Would like to echo MOC's post-excellent time and great host Coop! Been wanting to get to this M&G, was worth the wait. I fished the northern shoreline with Mark Bange and Don Vance. Ran into several other folks doing the same thing. Caught 20+ Stripers in the 14-18" range-no keepers. Afterwards, lunch on the beach was great. Here are a few of my pictures to share:

Again-thanks to Coop for setting this up!! See you next year!

        Moc,

Didn't see your new thread until after I posted my update - didn't want to duplicate here.

And Coop, I already had the "investment" discussion with the wife, and when I told her we didn't have anywhere to keep another (and longer) kayak, she said "Can't you put one of those pulley systems in the garage?" Am I the luckiest guy in the world, or what?

Hey guys - Just want to chime in and thank Coop for all of his efforts. I want to thank everybody actually - I am new to the group and new to Kayak Fishing in general but you guys are very welcoming. People were helping to unload, launch, land and load kayaks - tackle, lures and advice was readily shared. Kudos to everybody.

I ended up at the "House" at Poplar and fished most of the time with 5-6 others; everybody seemed to catch their share of 16-18" fish with a few keepers mixed in. After my share of schoolies I was able to land the big fish of the day at 26" and scored a bucket o' lures - (Thank you very much). The whole day was enjoyable, especially the striped bass for dinner. Thanks again - I am looking forward to fishing with you all in the future as well.
