SMOG reunited today at Clark’s Landing to fish the lower Patuxent after the forecast of moderate south winds made most spots on the Potomac iffy. Arrived to dead calm water, so much for the forecast. Saw three other yaks already on the water as we headed to our normal spots. Arrived at dead high tide so there wasn’t water moving. We concentrated on rock walls and grass banks and found plenty of willing stripers up to 19” cruising the shallows. Today they were really only interested in chartreuse as it outfished pearl 5 to 1. Action was constant throughout the morning with a very low coefficient falling tide. We kept hitting the banks. Here’s Ron in a typical spot.
Around 9 things started to slow so we switched to perching. I was goofing around so put on a 3” white Gulp and started bottom bouncing. Good thing I did, got this nice 13” flounder.
Called it quits around 9:30 with 20 or so stripers each for Ron and me. Gary was off in search of his holy grail perch so caught lots of schoolies but no holy grail. All in all a very pleasant morning.
